Get Out The Vote for Housing Justice!

Join C4C Action to talk to Oakland voters about Measures V, Q, and U! At this shift we’ll be flyering and talking to as many residents as possible before they vote to urge them to vote YES on these crucial housing justice ballot measures. Drinks and snacks provided! Note: This is not a canvassing shift – rather than going door-to-door, we’ll be flyering and talking to voters in one location for the duration of this shift.

Here’s a bit more about the 3 measures Councilmember Carroll Fife is sponsoring that, if passed, would make a huge impact on the homelessness and housing affordability crisis:

  • Measure V would expand Just Cause eviction protections to prevent Oakland residents from losing their homes
  • Measure Q, would exempt Oakland from Article 34, a racist statewide law that was passed almost a hundred years ago, that bans the construction of low-income, deeply affordable housing unless neighborhoods vote to allow it by a 2/3 vote. Article 34 was intended to keep neighborhoods segregated and prevent Black people from accessing quality housing. Measure Q would get Oakland out from under this racist law and would authorize the construction of up to 13,000 deeply affordable low-income housing units in the City.
  • Measure U is an infrastructure bond that would actually fund building that affordable housing that Measure Q would legalize. Basically, we need Measure Q to make it legal to build affordable housing, and we need Measure U to provide the funds to actually build it.
